As a vehicle owner, it is vitally important that you are carrying out regular maintenance on your vehicle. Without proper maintenance, your vehicle will be a lot more likely to be prone to more serious problems in the future. And Keeping your car in good running order doesn’t have to be difficult. Even drivers with limited motor knowledge are able to perform maintenance tasks such as checking your tyre pressures, changing the oil, and checking other engine fluids in your vehicle.
Here are some tips to help you maintain your car better:
Keep It Clean
Every day our cars are subjected to sun, salt, grease and grime, acid rain, smog, tree sap, dead bugs, and worst of all, the acidic compound of bird poop bombs. These things eat away at paint, and once that’s gone, they will eat at the metal in your car. While failing to wash your car won’t result in immediate damage, over time the elements will corrode your vehicle, along with its potential re-sell value.
Frequent Maintenance
Oil
For normal driving, many automakers recommend changing the engine oil and filter every 7,500 miles or six months. Special engines such as diesel and turbocharged engines may need more-frequent oil changes.
Fluids
On many newer cars, the automatic transmission is sealed. On cars where it is not sealed, check the transmission dipstick with the engine warmed up and running. Also, check the power-steering-pump dipstick (it’s usually attached to the fluid-reservoir cap) and the level in the brake fluid reservoir. If the brake fluid level is low, top it up and have the system checked for leaks.
Tyre Pressure
Incorrect tire pressure can lead to a ton of problems, including poor breaking, instability, less gas mileage, and of course, a flat tire, so check your tire pressure with a gauge. Also, rotate your tires often to make sure that they wear evenly, making sure you get the most before replacing them.
Drive Wisely
Sometimes, you really need to drive somewhere and you can’t help but go full speed. However, driving like the world is ending all the time will eventually take its toll on your car, while driving a bit more calmly will only help to preserve your vehicle’s life.
Original parts
Inferior items can cause damage and loss of performance, even potentially compromising your safety and that of your passengers
